Health and wellness lab tests

Lab tests can provide a wealth of knowledge and insight to your provider about your health. But you don’t need to be sick to get one. In fact, some of the most common reasons you’ll need lab testing is to:
  • Monitor your health and catch health conditions before they become an issue
  • Manage chronic health conditions
  • Diagnose a new illness or condition
At Perfect Health, we offer many different lab testing services, including:

Complete blood count

A complete blood count (CBC) helps assess your general health by:
  • Measuring the type and numbers of blood cells
  • Screening for disorders
  • Checking your nutritional status
CBC labs can help diagnose many chronic health conditions, including anemia, infection and even leukemia.

Basic metabolic panel

A basic metabolic panel measures:
  • Glucose
  • Sodium
  • Potassium
  • Calcium
  • Chloride
  • Carbon dioxide
  • Blood urea nitrogen
  • Creatinine
Your test results will help your doctor understand your blood sugar level, electrolyte and fluid balance and kidney function. Testing can diagnose prediabetes, diabetes and other health conditions. It also helps assess the side effects of medication on your body. You will need to fast for basic metabolic labs.

Comprehensive metabolic panel

A comprehensive metabolic panel checks for the same things a basic metabolic panel does, as well as:
  • Albumin
  • Total protein
  • Alkaline phosphatase (ALP)
  • Alanine aminotransferase (ALT or SGPT)
  • Aspartate aminotransferase (AST or SGOT)
  • Bilirubin
These protein and enzyme levels can indicate a problem with the kidneys, liver or bones.

Lipid panel

A lipid panel checks cholesterol and triglycerides levels. High levels may suggest a higher risk of heart disease, heart attack or stroke.

Hemoglobin A1C

A hemoglobin A1c helps diagnose and monitor diabetes. Labs measure the average blood sugar levels for the past two to three months. It is also called an A1c or glycated hemoglobin test.

Urinalysis

A urinalysis is a lab test for your urine. It can detect and diagnose many different conditions, including diabetes, urinary tract infection, kidney disease and more. Urinalysis testing can also check for drug substances in the urine and hormones that indicate pregnancy.

Cultures

A culture can diagnose infections. Common cultures include:
Testing results help your provider decide on an appropriate course of treatment, including if an antibiotic is needed to help you feel better.

What is the most important blood test for health and wellness?

The most important blood test for health and wellness will depend on what your provider needs to know. The most common blood test is complete blood count. This provides a picture into your overall health and wellness. If you have any abnormal or unusual results, your doctor may order additional testing.

Where can I get a blood test done?

You can get a blood test done at many different locations. Perfect Health offers onsite labs and blood tests, making it easy to get the answers you need for better health.

How long does any lab test now take?

Most lab tests are quick and relatively painless. A blood draw typically only takes a few minutes. Your provider will usually have the labs back within 24 hours. With our onsite testing capabilities, we are sometimes able to provide results even faster.

Some tests that check for infections are “rapid” tests, which means you’ll have the results before you leave our office.

How much does any lab test now cost?

The cost of labs can vary depending on the type of test you need and the location of your lab. Perfect Health partners with many insurance providers and offers payment plans to individuals without insurance.

Does any lab test take insurance?

Yes, most labs take insurance for diagnostic testing. You may want to check your coverage to ensure your selected provider is in-network, which can help reduce the cost of lab services.
